Emerald Zebra on behalf of our client, a Cyprus registered technology company that develops an AI powered automated gold trading software product for MetaTrader 5, is looking to hire a Senior MT5/MQL5 Developer to be based in Limassol, Cyprus. The company works with regulated broker infrastructure to provide automated trading functionality and risk management tools, and this role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
Location: Limassol, Cyprus. Hybrid working from the Limassol office.
Engagement: Full time, as an employee or independent contractor depending on your location and applicable law.
Role Overview
You will take full ownership of the Expert Advisors and automated trading systems that power the company’s trading algorithm on MetaTrader 5. You will maintain and extend live production EAs, implement strategy improvements, perform rigorous backtesting and optimisation, and collaborate closely with the wider engineering team on infrastructure and data integrations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain and improve production grade Expert Advisors for MetaTrader 5 using MQL5.
- Implement technical indicators, multi timeframe strategies and risk management logic to specification.
- Design and run thorough backtests, optimisation passes and forward tests using the MT5 Strategy Tester.
- Handle the MT5 order lifecycle, deal and position management, and event driven logic via OnTick, OnTradeTransaction and timers.
- Manage symbol and broker differences including spread, digits, tick size, volume steps and execution modes.
- Integrate MT5 EAs with external APIs, databases and messaging systems as required.
- Write modular, maintainable and well documented MQL5 code and take part in code reviews with version control.
Required Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable experience developing Expert Advisors for MetaTrader 5 with strong MQL5 skills.
- Good understanding of object oriented programming and C/C++ style languages.
- Hands on experience with CTrade and the MQL5 standard trading library.
- Experience with OnTick, OnTradeTransaction, timers and the MT5 event driven architecture.
- Strong experience using the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester for backtesting, optimisation and forward testing.
- Understanding of position sizing, Stop Loss and Take Profit mechanics, and margin management.
- Experience managing broker and symbol differences: spread, digits, tick size, volume steps and execution modes.
- Experience with Git or another source control system.
Desirable
- C++ development experience.
- Python scripting for data analysis or automation.
- MariaDB, MySQL or other relational database experience.
- Quantitative or algorithmic trading background.
- Statistics and time series analysis skills.
- Forex and CFD market knowledge.
- Integration of MT5 with external APIs or databases.
- Experience with RabbitMQ or similar message brokers.
- Experience running EAs continuously on VPS environments.
